Christian Authors
I don't read much today. I used to be an avid reader, and many in the church would ban me from heaven for saying that Stephen King is still my favorite author. The problem with reading today is trying to find books that are easy to read. I do not mean books that do not have me think, but books that are easy to follow and actually get to the point of the matter instead of having endless pages and chapters that have nothing to do with what the book should be about.
There are two reasons that many, but not all, christian books are difficult to understand. The first is the authors penchant to show how intelligent they are by including as many "big" words as they can. These are the same kind of people who are difficult to have a simple conversation with as they love to be the only one speaking. Most people like this don't realize they are this way. If you can just love them and remember they are this way for a reason. Maybe you can gently nudge yourself into the conversations more. Lift them up to God and He will take care of the rest.
The second reason for authors writing as they do is many are professional theologians who forget that many of today's christians are not. I've tried to read countless books written by professor such and such teaching at anywhere seminary. This professor is trying to explain the greatness of prayer or God's lve or why Jesus went through with the crucifixion. After 3 chapters that seemingly had nothing to do with the supposed topic, I would grow weary and stop reading.
Here is some advice for you authors that fall into either of these 2 categories. For the overly intelligent, we don't care about how intelligent you are. We want to know what God is teaching us through this book. God doen't need you to take center stage when you are writing about Him. He is a jealous God and doesn't want to share His seat with you. Leave a little(or alot) of you out and allow God in. He would bless you for it.
For the professor writing for professors and marketing to the everyday christian, here is advice I learned a long time ago:
Keep
It
Simple
S(fill in with the word of you're choice)
Most christians are not theologians and many times are still on the milk looking for study material and references to help learn the bible. They are not stupid, but don't treat them as if they all have master's or batchelor degrees in christianity of the bible. Give the facts in and easy to understand and digest format. God doesn't need your commentary as He can speak for Himself.
