*Note - This is not a complete telling of what Jesus went through. This page is to give a small idea of what Christ went through for us. Also, everything that Jesus said nor the 2 others that were crucified with Him are not mentioned. As time permits, scripture will be added for easier reference.

Salvation is one of if not the greatest gift God has given us. The salvation of Jesus is possible only because of God's sacrifice  of His Son on the cross and His resurrection 3 days later. Jesus wasn't just crucified, He was also persecuted and beaten before He was nailed to the cross.

At the last supper, Jesus told His disciples that one of them would betray Him.  Later that night, Judas came to Jesus with a detachment of soldiers and officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees. Judas kissed Jesus on the cheek, which was the signal that Jesus was the one to be arrested.  Jesus was then taken befor the chief priests who held an illegal trial.  At the trial many people bore false witness against Jesus.

After being found guilty, He was sent to Pilate, who question Him regarding the charges. It festival time and was customary for Pilate to release 1 prisoner. He brought forth Jesus and a prisoner named Barrabus and asked the crowd which one to release.  The crowd shouted for the release of
Barrabus. When questioned about releasing Jesus the crowd refused to hear of it. When asked by Pilate what is to be done with Jesus, the people shouted to crucify Him. At this point Pilate said “I am innocent of this man’s blood, it is your responsibility!” Pilate then ordered Jesus to be beaten before His crucifixion.

The Pilate's soldiers took Jesus in the praetorium and gathered a company of soldiers around Him. They stripped Him and put a scarlet robe on Him. They then twisted together a crown of thorns and jammed it on His head so the thorns were shoved deep into His brow. They then put a staff in His right hand and knelt in front of Him and mocked Him saying "Hail, king of the Jews!" They spat on him and took the staff and struck Him on the head repeatedly.  After mocking Him they removed the robe and put His garments back on.  They then led Him away to be crucified.

As parted of His mocking, Jesus was forced to carry His own cross to His final destination. Along the way He collapsed and one of the Roman soldiers ordered Simon of Cyrene to carry it for Him.  Once they arrived to the site, which is believed to be a hill outside the gates of Golgotha, Jesus was nailed in both His wrists (or hands) and 1 nail in his crossed feet.

The purpose of crucifixion is to suffocate the person on the cross.  With there body slouched down, they have to push up to breathe. This causes great pain in both the arms and legs, so the person cannot hold this position long and they slouch down again, making it difficult to breathe. It is a painful and slow way to die. Jesus lasted six hours.  When He was nearing His end, He stated that He was thirsty and was given vinegar to drink.

While on the cross Jesus took all of man's sin upon Himself. When that happened God, who cannot look on sin, turned from His Son. At this point Jesus cried out "My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?"

Imagine it, being sent to be the Saviour of man, having been mocked, beaten and being in excruciating pain on the cross, and having your father turn his back on you.  At that moment, I believe that Jesus had never felt so alone in His entire existence.

At the end, Jesus' human body, being completely spent from His ordeal, gave up His spirit. It was getting dark, and the soldiers were about to break His legs, but instead saw He was dead.  They pierced His side with a spear just to be sure and blood and water spilled out onto the ground.
